Art

INTENT

Our art curriculum intends to: -

  • Inspire creativity and educate pupils on a variety of past and present influential artists.
  • Develop pupil’s critical thinking skills in order to reflect on both their own and others’ work.
  • Give art a purpose and relevance to pupil’s lives through cross curricular topics and highlighting cultural links.
  • Develop skills in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art and craft and design ideas.

All children will be taught the skills and knowledge of art as outlined in the programmes of study in the National Curriculum for Art.

Our main aim is to promote enjoyment of art and the children will be involved in observational drawing, painting, pastel-work, printing and textiles. The children will also be given opportunities to develop their knowledge of art forms and artists from different periods and cultures.

The art projects upon which they embark will be linked to the topic they are learning, to provide access to all learning styles.

Visiting artists may also enhance the provision for the children, together with after school clubs.
