The pupil premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.
The main barriers to educational achievement faced by our pupils are those associated with transience and being part of a military family. For example:
- Some pupils have moved schools several times leading to gaps in their learning.
- Some pupils who have an SEN may suffer from a lack of continuity in their education, if information is not passed on swiftly from school to school.
- Some pupils may have established particular bonds with previous staff and may find it difficult to immediately form new relationships with staff and make progress.
- Knowledge of pupils, their strengths, weaknesses and interests is the key to supporting progress and this process may take time to establish as pupils move to different schools.
- Pupils may take a while to settle into new surroundings and make new friendships, which can be unsettling for them.
- Pupils may find themselves living away from extended family and often in single parent families if one or even both parents are detached.
There are many factors which could possibly affect the emotional wellbeing of our pupils and subsequently their ability to fulfil their potential. We therefore use Pupil Premium funding to support them in the following ways:-
Effective tracking and monitoring progress - money is used to fund TAs who assess pupil's attainment on arrival, so that accurate assessments can be made of their needs.
Additional support for children who are underachieving - money is used to fund TAs who work closely with the children and can fill any gaps in their learning, leading to accelerated progress.
- 1:1 support - money is used to employ additional staff who can provide sessions of 1:1 support, to support pupils for a number of issues they may be facing.
- Small group support - money is used to fund TAs who can provide small group support as an immediate AFL tool and address misconceptions as they arise.
- Pastoral support - The excellent pupil to adult ratio in school, enables us to give time to pupils who may be experiencing emotional difficulties.
- Booster group support after school - money is also used to fund any boosters after school to support children's learning or after school clubs which enhance learning and build self esteem.
- Resources - money is used for additional resources needed by pupils to enhance learning ie phonics programmes, SATS boosters, Quality reading comprehension materials to challenge in line with the new curriculum.
- Trips and visitors - to enrich the curriculum and experiences i.e. Whole School Pantomime visit, Planetarium, Circusology.
Impact of Pupil Premium - the ways in which we will measure the impact are:
Results of pupil progress and attainment
Pupil voice relating to how they feel about school, ie safe, valued, supported
Parental satisfaction relating to the education and experience we provide for children.
